Roman Blazhkiv is a Ukrainian choreographer, performance director, and educator with more than 15 years of international experience in contemporary dance, physical theatre, and interdisciplinary performance.

He began his career as a lead contemporary dance artist with Ukraine's acclaimed Freedom Physical Theatre, performing in international touring productions, arena concerts, television shows, and festivals alongside internationally renowned artists including Lara Fabian, Emir Kusturica, Igor Krutoy, Laima Vaikule, Filip Kirkorov, Valery Meladze, Tina Karol, LOBODA, Maks Barskih, and Mariya Yaremchuk (Eurovision Song Contest 2014). He also performed in large-scale productions directed by celebrated creative director Alan Badoev.

In 2014, Roman joined Franco Dragone's TABOO at the City of Dreams in Macau, performing in a multidisciplinary production that combined contemporary dance, theatre, acrobatics, and immersive visual storytelling.

Since relocating to Bulgaria in 2015, he has worked as a guest teacher and choreographer at International Dance Academy 360, creating original choreography for stage productions, television shows, and commercial projects while mentoring dancers of all ages and professional levels.

"Every body carries a story. Movement gives it a voice."

Today, Roman's artistic practice explores the intersection of choreography, documentary storytelling, and social engagement. He creates performances where movement becomes a language of memory, identity, and dialogue — transforming personal experiences into shared human encounters. Through collaborations with cultural institutions, festivals, and community organisations, he develops interdisciplinary projects that explore migration, belonging, democracy, conflict, and human rights.

His recent works include Facebook Choreography, Impossible Conversations, DETACHED OPEN AIR: Transit Zone Sofia, and Human Rights Booster — developed in collaboration with Regional Centre for Contemporary Arts Toplocentrala, ACT Festival, THE CIVICS Innovation Hub, and Arms Wide Open Association. These projects bring together artists and communities, using choreography as a tool for participation, reflection, and social change.
